Everything here is actually much more up to speed with the West; the only confusing part is that everything is written in Kazakh and Russian, and everybody is speaking Kazakh and Russian. After spending so much time either on empty roads or in relatively peaceful Chinese cities, jumping headfirst into something so completely different from anything I've ever experienced put me into a state of shock. Center for the Support of Migrant Workers was opened in Almaty with assistance of Eurasia Fund of Central Asia and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Such centers were opened in Shymkent, Aktau, Petropavlovsk and Almaty oblast in 2007 within the limits of the program of Center for the Support of Migrant Workers.

The program of labour migration is aimed at the increase of the security level and the observance of legality in the Republic of Kazakhstan for migrant workers from the countries of the Central Asia, protection of their rights and interests, ordering and regulation of migration processes as a whole.

Kazakhstan’s second-biggest lender by assets, said an investment fund backed by Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi plans to buy 17.1 percent of its shares.

The fund, Alnair Capital Holding JSC, now holds 8.03 percent of Kazkommertsbank shares, the Almaty-based bank said today in an e-mailed statement. The deal is contingent on Alnair receiving authorization to hold more than 25 percent of Kazkommertsbank shares, according to the statement.

Alnair will seek a place on Kazkommertsbank's board of directors and plans to appoint an international banker for the role, the statement said. Alnair is being advised on the deal by Credit Suisse Group AG and Renaissance Capital Group.

“Kazakhstan-Russia: Roadmap” roundtable arranged by the Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be held at “InterContinental Almaty-The Ankara in Kazakhstan”Hotel in Almaty on June 24, Kazinform reports.

The event will bring together well-known experts and leading politologists of Kazakhstan and Russia. They are expected to discuss the realization of the Joint Action Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation for 2007-2008, problems and prospects of further cooperation between the states.
